Photos from my first climb

All these photos were taken on Oct 4th 1996 during my first climb. We arent' climbing at night, it just looks that way because I didn't plan on it being so shady in the place we climbed. I had planned on a bright day (Which it was) and full sun (Which i t wasn't) so all of the photos suffer from direct flash and underexposure. Next time I'll have to plan better. For more information on the people appearing in these photos check out my friends page.

Note to text based users: I don't have ALT's on the images on this page because it woulden't add anything the text dosen't already tell. Instead I've made every image a link to itself so you can easily download them if you'd like to see me climbing.

I'm the one on the left putting on the climbing shoes. The "hippy" looking one on the right is Eric, he's the experienced climber who luckily had the same size feet as me and Steve.

I'm geared up and getting ready for my climb. The very excited one in the middle is 'Buddy' Steve's dog. I'm pretty sure that this was from my second actual climb so I wasn't as nervous but I was going to try a toughe r face. You can see exactly what Eric was looking up at in the last photo now.

Up I go. This is from my first climb, and I made it up to about the ledge at the top of this profile shot. It's more obvious in the next view.

Same as the last shot but I'm a little closer to the ledge. We estimated that the ledge was about 45 feet up, and acording to the other climbers there both Steve and I made it farther up than any of them had their firs t time. I don't know if they were just trying to encourage us or if they were honest, but it worked. We both are now hooked and plan on climbing more. Unfortunatly I now have to wait untill I heal from my motorcycle crash .

Yet another shot of me scaling rock. This was on the harder section and is near the end of my climb. This is where Eric's experience was really demonstrated. While Steve and I could get about 10 feet up and suddenly c oulden't find any more holds, Eric just scampered up it like it was a gentle incline!
