Edmunds Aerospace Deltie

My Deltie

One thing I always liked in models are "different" recovery methods. I loved the old Estes Space Shuttle I had, and I always wanted to try a more advanced glider recovery model. For anyone interested in trying boot glider recovery, this is the perfect starter!

The kit can be built in an afternoon by anyone, it even includes a clamp for holding the pieces together while they dry! It requires almost no test gliding and performed flawlessly on it's first flight.

I'd like to give this model a nice finish but I'm not sure how that would affect it's flight. For now I'm just leaving it as bare wood since it works so well this way.

CURRENT STATUS:
After a small non-flight related accident (Too small of an indoor test flight range and too many wall bumps) the Deltie is again ready to fly. In the accident the fuselage cracked where it joins the wings in front. I used some extra thin ca and a little bit of 30 minute epoxy to fix it, it will never break again :) I did have to re-trim the model because of the added weight of the epoxy but it appears to be ready to fly again!

December 961/2A3-2TFlight was right at sunset, actually just a few seconds after. Even without stabilization on the launch pad the kit lofted straight and quick. Perfect separation and about a 30-40 second flight. Beautiful circular flight path with just a bit of bobbing.
